BN Secures Overwhelming Mandate
JOHOR BAHRU, July 12 — Barisan Nasional (BN) secured a landslide victory in the Johor state election after winning 48 of the 56 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) captured the remaining eight.
The Election Commission (SPR) announced the final official results at about 1am, with Puteri Wangsa being the last constituency declared.
Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama), Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), Parti Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (MUDA), Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI), and all six Independent candidates failed to secure any seats.
Onn Hafiz: A Mandate to Continue Serving Johor
Speaking to reporters at the Johor UMNO Liaison Office, Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi described the victory as a strong mandate from the people.
He pledged that BN would continue serving the rakyat, addressing key issues, and safeguarding the well-being of Bangsa Johor.
“This victory is a great responsibility that we accept with gratitude and humility,” he said.
MIC and MCA Deliver Strong Results
MIC won all four seats it contested through K. Raven Kumar (Kemelah), V. Rugendran (Kahang), P. Pannir Selvam (Perling) and R. Kumaran (Bukit Batu).
MCA also performed strongly, winning eight seats through Ling Tiang Soon (Yong Peng), Lee Ting Han (Paloh), Tan Chong (Bekok), Tan Eng Meng (Pekan Nanas), Chua Jian Boon (Layang-Layang), Haw Chin Teck (Tangkak), See Ann Giap (Jementah) and Chan San San (Johor Jaya).
PH Retains Eight Seats as DAP Suffers Heavy Losses
PH’s eight-seat tally consisted of six DAP victories in Skudai, Mengkibol, Bentayan, Senai, Penggaram and Stulang, while Amanah retained Simpang Jeram and PKR won Puteri Wangsa.
DAP managed to retain only six of the 17 seats it contested and lost four previously held constituencies — Johor Jaya, Tangkak, Jementah and Perling — to BN component parties MCA and MIC.
Bersama, PN and Other Parties Shut Out
Bersama failed to win any seats and lost its election deposits in all 15 constituencies it contested.
PN, which had won three seats in the 2022 Johor election, also failed to defend any of them after losing Bukit Kepong, Endau and Maharani.
PAS Johor said it respected and accepted the election outcome, describing it as the democratic choice of Johor voters.
PH Vows to Remain a Strong Opposition
PKR Election Director Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari thanked Johor voters for fulfilling their democratic responsibility and congratulated all successful candidates.
He said PH would continue serving as a credible and principled opposition by championing public concerns and offering solutions to unresolved issues.
Key Winners and Notable Results
In Machap, Onn Hafiz retained his seat after defeating PH candidate Nur Hafiz Roslan with 20,382 votes, securing a majority of 15,375.
Former Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik won Puteri Wangsa in a five-cornered contest.
Former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba reclaimed Pasir Raja, while all nine incumbent Johor State Executive Council members successfully defended their seats.
Meanwhile, Members of Parliament Onn Abu Bakar and Suhaizan Kayat were defeated by BN candidates in Senggarang and Larkin, respectively.
UMNO Ayer Hitam division chief Datuk Samsolbari Jamali also made history by retaining Semarang for a sixth consecutive term.
Election Overview
A total of 172 candidates contested the 56 state seats, comprising 56 candidates each from BN and PH, 33 from PN, 15 from Bersama, four from MUDA, six Independents, and one candidate each from PSM and ASLI.
The Johor State Assembly was dissolved on June 1, with nomination day held on June 27, early voting on July 7, and polling conducted yesterday involving approximately 2.7 million registered voters.
