Clinic Manager Shocked to Find RM1 Billion in Digital Bank Account

KUALA LUMPUR: A 33-year-old clinic manager was left stunned after discovering a balance of RM1 billion in his digital banking account, an incident that has since gone viral on social media.

Wan Muhammad Fairus shared a screenshot showing the 10-digit figure in his online banking application, recounting his disbelief at the unexpected discovery.

He said the incident happened while he was in his bedroom preparing to make a transaction, with his account balance previously below RM1,000.

“When I opened the application and tapped the option to reveal my balance, I was shocked to see such a huge amount. My hands were trembling as I held my phone.

“I tried logging out and signing in again, but the money was still there,” he said.

Wan Muhammad Fairus, a father of four who lives in Samariang, Kuching, said he later checked his bank statement and sought clarification from ChatGPT to understand the amount displayed.

Realising the money did not belong to him, he suspected a technical error and immediately contacted the bank for an explanation.

He said he had no intention of using the money, as he knew it was not his and was concerned about the potential legal consequences.

“The bank informed me that a technical issue had occurred and temporarily restricted my account until 4pm yesterday,” he said.

The matter was resolved after the bank reversed the erroneous transaction, while his original account balance remained unaffected.

Wan Muhammad Fairus added that the bank had informed him that a reward would be given in recognition of his actions, although he had yet to receive details about the reward.

He said he was awaiting further information from the bank, possibly through email or an official announcement.
