KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has announced the completion of the Second Reading of the Cyber Crime Bill 2026 in the Dewan Negara, marking a significant step towards strengthening Malaysia’s response to growing digital threats.
Zahid said the rapid advancement of digital technology has brought numerous benefits to society but has also created new challenges, including increasingly complex cyber crimes that require a stronger and more relevant legal framework.
He said the proposed Bill aims to enhance existing laws to address various forms of cyber offences, including online fraud, attacks on computer systems, misuse of digital identities, digital forgery and crimes involving emerging technologies.
“The development of digital technology has transformed daily life, but at the same time, it has created opportunities for more sophisticated cyber threats. Therefore, a stronger legal framework is necessary to protect the people and the nation,” he said.
Zahid stressed that the government remains committed to ensuring Malaysia’s laws continue to evolve alongside technological advancements.
He added that continuous efforts will be made to strengthen cybersecurity measures and safeguard public interests as the country moves further into the digital era.
