SEREMBAN, July 21 – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has pledged to create 50,000 new job opportunities in Negeri Sembilan if the coalition is given the mandate to govern the state after the Aug 1 state election.
He said the commitment would be among the key offers in BN’s manifesto, which is expected to be launched this week, alongside other initiatives aimed at bringing greater benefits to the people.
Ahmad Zahid said that although BN still considered itself the “underdog” in the upcoming state polls, the response received during his campaign visits had given him confidence that voters wanted to see the coalition return to lead Negeri Sembilan.
“Wherever I go, voters tell me they miss Barisan Nasional. God willing, if given the opportunity, BN will form a new government in Negeri Sembilan after the election,” he told reporters after presenting Excellent Service Awards to KEMAS employees at Kampung Pantai here on Tuesday.
On the target of creating 50,000 jobs, Ahmad Zahid said it was achievable as Negeri Sembilan has strong potential to attract new investments.
He said among the initiatives being pursued was the development of a 2,000-acre Halal Industry Park, which is expected to become a production and export hub for halal products.
He added that he had also held discussions with foreign investors on potential investments in vaccine production, medical products and related industries that could generate more employment opportunities for the people.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid also dismissed allegations that BN had used government assets during its election campaign.
He claimed that his party also had evidence of similar actions by political opponents in several states but said the matter would be left to the relevant authorities for further action.
