Deputy Prime Minister Zahid Hamidi Urges Public to Stay Vigilant as Southwest Monsoon Begins Today

KUALA LUMPUR 14 MAY — Starting today Malaysia is expected to enter the Southwest Monsoon phase, which typically brings lower rainfall along with warmer and drier weather conditions across most parts of the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi advised the public to remain alert to current weather developments, practise prudent water usage, and refrain from engaging in open burning activities that could lead to haze and environmental pollution.

He also reminded the public that despite the drier conditions during the monsoon season, heavy rain, strong winds and thunderstorms may still occur in certain areas.

“As such, the people are urged to remain vigilant and always refer to the latest weather updates issued by MET Malaysia,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid also expressed hopes for the well-being of all Malaysians during the monsoon period.

“May we all continue to be protected and may all our affairs be eased, Insya-Allah,” he added.
