KEMAMAN, JULY 21 — EPIC Berhad expects the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, especially the construction of the line to Kemaman Port here, to be the main catalyst for the company’s growth with a revenue target of reaching RM700 million by 2030.
EPIC Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Muhtar Suhaili said the 22-hectare land reclamation project currently being implemented for the construction of the ECRL alignment to enter Kemaman Port is expected to be completed next September.
He said the ECRL alignment to the port and the reclamation work were scheduled to begin operations on Jan 1, 2027 in line with the plans of the Ministry of Transport and Malaysia Rail Link (MRL).
“The ECRL line to Kemaman Port is a ‘game changer’ for EPIC because it will increase the connectivity of this port with Port Klang in Selangor, Kuantan Port in Pahang and the Klang Valley.
“Apart from improving logistics efficiency, EPIC also plans to enter the container cargo handling segment, a new business that will complement its existing operations which are currently focused on dry bulk cargo and general bulk cargo,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after the National Training Week (NTW) 2026 Opening Ceremony at the EPIC Berhad headquarters here today.
Also present were Terengganu Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) Head of Office Nurain Othman, EPIC Group Acting Chief Financial Officer Suhana Kamaludin and EPIC Group General Manager of Human Resources and Administration Mohd Sukeri Muhammad.
Muhtar said EPIC recorded its highest revenue in history of RM411.9 million last year and was confident that the port expansion project and ECRL-related development would improve the company’s financial performance over the next five years.
“The use of ECRL is also expected to reduce dependence on road transport, thus making cargo movement faster, more efficient and more competitive,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said EPIC was also expanding the capacity of the Kemaman Supply Base (KSB) with the construction of a new warehouse to meet the demands of the oil and gas industry.
He said KSB currently has 45 warehouses and two more will be built next year, followed by another one the following year.
“KSB currently houses 262 tenants including Petroleum Arrangement Contractors (PACs) with approximately 9,000 workers operating daily including nearly 2,000 EPIC staff,” he said.
Meanwhile, Muhtar said the Kemaman Regasification Terminal (RGT) project, estimated to be worth RM3.8 billion, has the potential to be a catalyst for new investments if it receives approval from the Energy Commission.
He said the project, which involves international investors, is expected to further boost the development of the oil and gas industry in Kemaman.
