KUALA LUMPUR, August 7 2026— Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob will not be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today after being admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN).
Sessions Court judge Suzana Hussin allowed the prosecution to postpone the reading of the charges to Aug 27 following an application by Ismail Sabri’s lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, who informed the court that his client had been hospitalised since yesterday and was scheduled to undergo a pacemaker procedure later today. The prosecution did not object to the postponement.
Ismail Sabri, 66, was expected to face charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act in connection with his asset declaration.
The Bera MP and former Umno vice-president served as Malaysia’s ninth prime minister from August 2021 to October 2022.
The case stems from a MACC investigation that began in February 2025, during which four of Ismail Sabri’s former officers were arrested. Authorities also seized approximately RM170 million in cash and foreign currencies, 16kg of gold bars worth about RM7 million, jewellery and luxury watches from one of the aides’ residences.
In October last year, the Sessions Court ordered the forfeiture of more than RM169 million in cash to the government after neither Ismail Sabri nor his aide contested the application.
