LABUAN, Oct 7, 2026 — Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has urged the public to be cautious of fake and unverified information circulating on social media ahead of the Prime Minister’s Budget 2027 speech.
Fahmi said misleading graphics, manipulated images and content falsely presented as official announcements could be circulated to create confusion.
He also warned that some parties may misuse photographs or logos of news organisations to make fabricated information appear authentic.
The public is advised to verify information through official sources and established media organisations such as Bernama and RTM before sharing it.
Fahmi also urged users who encounter suspicious or potentially fake content to report it to the police or the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Meanwhile, a joint awareness programme involving MCMC and the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) is expected to be held in Labuan on Oct 31 to educate the public about evolving scam tactics and ways to prevent financial losses.
