KUALA LUMPUR, October 17 2026, Flash floods affected several areas across the Klang Valley following afternoon thunderstorms today, disrupting traffic in parts of Selangor and prompting authorities to advise motorists to exercise caution.
Reports on social media highlighted flooding in USJ 1, USJ 7, Sunway, Ara Damansara, Kota Damansara, Kampung Melayu Subang, Kampung Baru Hicom and Shah Alam, with road users urged to plan their journeys and avoid affected routes.
In Shah Alam, the city council warned of rising water levels near the traffic lights at i-City in Section 7 and Padang Jawa in Section 16. Motorists were advised to drive carefully and avoid the affected roads if water levels continued to rise.
The Malaysian Highway Authority also reported flash flooding at Ramp C of the Guthrie Corridor Expressway interchange, along the route from Shah Alam towards Bukit Jelutong, at 5.40pm.
The incident blocked the left lane, leaving the right lane open to traffic. However, traffic flow was reported to remain under control.
The flooding came after the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued an earlier warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in several areas, including Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat in Selangor.
The weather alert also covered parts of Kedah, Penang, Perak, Terengganu, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Johor and Sarawak, with the forecast conditions expected to last until 3pm.
Meanwhile, a social media user urged motorists travelling through USJ to plan their routes due to the flooding and traffic congestion.
Motorists were advised to remain alert to changing road conditions and follow updates from the relevant authorities.
