GLASGOW, July 24 2026— National para powerlifter Nicodemus Manggoi Moses narrowly missed out on a podium finish after placing fourth in the men’s heavyweight event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Friday night (early Saturday Malaysian time).
Competing at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Armadillo, Nicodemus posted a best lift of 200kg, earning 120.3 points under the competition’s bodyweight-adjusted scoring system.
Nigeria’s Riluwan Idris claimed the gold medal with a best lift of 208kg and 132.8 points, while England’s Matthew Harding secured silver after lifting 199kg for 131.0 points. India’s Jhandu Kumar completed the podium with a 190kg lift, scoring 130.9 points.
In the same category, Malaysia’s Bryan Junency Gustin was unable to record a successful lift after all three of his attempts at 196kg, 196kg and 201kg were ruled invalid.
Bryan is the elder brother of national para powerlifting champion Bonnie Bunyau.
Earlier, Bonnie was unable to retain his Commonwealth Games men’s lightweight title, settling for the bronze medal after winning gold at the previous edition.
The para powerlifting competition concluded on Friday, with medals awarded based on a points system that takes into account an athlete’s best successful lift and body weight across the lightweight and heavyweight categories.
