SEREMBAN, July 23 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the government will increase the Basic Rahmah Contribution (SARA) in the near future as part of its continued efforts to ease the rising cost of living faced by Malaysians.
Speaking at the Kekal Harapan Tour campaign in Senawang ahead of the Negeri Sembilan state election, Anwar said the decision was made after listening to public feedback and recognising that many families continue to face financial pressures despite existing assistance.
He noted that while the government has introduced initiatives such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and SARA, more support is still needed to help households cope with daily expenses.
“Although we have provided STR and SARA, and the Negeri Sembilan government under Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has given generous bonuses to civil servants, the challenges faced by the people have not been fully resolved.
“That is why we are listening to the people’s concerns, and God willing, we will increase SARA for all eligible recipients in the near future,” he said.
Anwar added that the MADANI Government remains committed to reviewing additional assistance measures if the country’s economic performance continues to improve.
He said discussions on enhancing aid, including STR and SARA, have been held with Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican, and the proposals will be considered as part of the 2027 Budget preparations.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the government’s priority is to ensure economic growth translates into meaningful support that improves the well-being of the people.
