High Court Sets Oct 14 For Najib’s Bid To Stay 1MDB Sentence

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 2026, The High Court here today fixed Oct 14 to hear former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s application to stay the execution of his 15-year prison sentence and RM11.4 billion fine in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case.

Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin set the date during case management attended by Najib’s counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, and deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam.

The judge said the hearing date was fixed after Najib’s legal team filed a certificate of urgency, with written submissions to be filed before the hearing.

Najib was present at today’s proceedings.

On Dec 26 last year, the High Court sentenced Najib to 15 years in prison and imposed a total fine of RM11.4 billion after finding him guilty of four counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.3 billion in 1MDB funds.

He subsequently filed an appeal against the conviction and sentence at the Court of Appeal on Dec 29, 2025.

The 15-year prison sentence was ordered to run concurrently and will begin after Najib completes his existing six-year sentence in the SRC International case, which is scheduled to end on Aug 23, 2028.

On Sept 18, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim granted Najib a conditional pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his SRC International sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of a RM50 million fine and other conditions.

Meanwhile, Najib’s daughter, Nooryana Najwa, was seen entering the court complex with her two sons at about 9.52am.

Asked when the RM50 million fine would be paid, she replied that she did not know.
