KUALA TERENGGANU, September 21 2026, The Immigration Department has detained more than 57,000 illegal immigrants through 9,700 enforcement operations nationwide between Jan 1 and Sept 17 this year.
Immigration Department deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Lokman Effendi Ramli said 1,720 employers were also prosecuted for various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 during the period.
He said enforcement action would also be taken against employers who breached immigration laws, while members of the public were urged to channel information on illegal immigrants to the authorities instead of taking matters into their own hands.
In Terengganu, 19 illegal immigrants were detained during an integrated Ops Mega operation at Sri Kolam Flats today. The operation involved 133 foreign nationals and was conducted jointly by the Immigration Department, National Security Council and Civil Defence Force.
