KUANTAN: A man was injured after the lorry he was driving loaded with hydrochloric acid overturned in Cherating, here this morning. Pahang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations and Rescue Division Assistant Director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said his department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 7.32 am this morning. "The accident caused the lorry to leak in the tank and the acid liquid flowed into the mangrove swamp." "The fire department has taken action to create a water curtain to prevent the spread of acid vapors to the main road, with the amount of hydrochloric acid spilled estimated to be less than 1,000 litres," he said in a statement today. He said the Department of Environment (DOE) and related companies had been contacted to coordinate further actions, including the process of transferring chemicals to replacement lorries. "The operation was still ongoing as of 1.40pm today with close monitoring by the Hazardous Chemicals Special Team (HAZMAT) to ensure that the situation remains safe throughout the load transfer process," he said.
