Low Urges Police, MCMC To Investigate Viral Video Linking DAP To Rohingya Religious School

MELAKA, October 14 2026, Kota Laksamana assemblyman Low Chee Leong has called on the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to investigate a viral video allegedly accusing DAP of protecting a religious school serving the Rohingya community in Melaka.

Low described the claims as defamatory, saying they had tarnished the reputations of DAP, Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong and himself.

He said his assistant, Tan Chin Gwan, lodged a police report at Tengkera Police Station on Wednesday morning to facilitate an investigation into the allegations.

At a press conference, Low said the 45-second video was uploaded to Facebook by an account under the name Steven Lee at about 8.35 am. Its caption allegedly claimed that a building in Pengkalan Rama Pantai housed a DAP religious school for Rohingya people and accused the party of protecting the institution.

The video had garnered about 462 views when he spoke to reporters.

Low said the allegations were particularly concerning with the Melaka state election approaching. He clarified that DAP had no authority to establish or operate religious schools, adding that religious enforcement matters in the state fell under the jurisdiction of the Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM).

He stressed the need for a thorough investigation, noting that the allegations involved sensitive issues relating to race, religion and royalty, commonly known as 3R issues.

Low also urged JAIM to take appropriate action within its jurisdiction.

He said he was aware of the building and that concerns over its use by the Rohingya community had been raised several times during his tenure as assemblyman.

The issue had also been discussed at meetings of the Kampung Pengkalan Pantai Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), with the meeting reports forwarded to the district office for further action by the relevant authorities.
