KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday described the launch of the Shah Alam Line Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) as another significant milestone in strengthening Malaysia’s public transport system through a modern, efficient and integrated network that benefits the people.
Speaking at the official launch of the Shah Alam Line, Anwar said the project goes beyond providing transportation services, serving as a key catalyst for improving the quality of life and supporting the nation’s long-term economic development.
He said the new rail line would provide millions of residents along the route with faster, more comfortable and reliable travel, enabling commuters to reduce daily travel time and transportation costs while helping ease road congestion and lessen dependence on private vehicles.
“The Shah Alam Line is not merely a transportation project. It is an investment in the people’s future, providing greater mobility, improving connectivity and ensuring development reaches more communities,” he said.
Anwar said the LRT3 is also expected to drive local economic growth through transit-oriented development (TOD), attracting new investments, creating business opportunities, generating employment and enhancing the competitiveness of areas connected by the rail network.
He added that a more comprehensive public transport system would improve access to employment, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and other essential services, ensuring that the benefits of development are shared more equitably across society.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the MADANI Government’s commitment to continuing development initiatives that address the needs of the people while strengthening the country’s economic resilience.
He said the government remains focused on implementing projects that promote sustainable growth and deliver long-term benefits for all Malaysians, both now and for future generations.
“The progress we achieve must benefit every segment of society and contribute to a more inclusive and prosperous Malaysia,” he said.
