KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 2026 — Malaysia is confident it can achieve its aspiration of becoming a Reading Nation by 2030 through continuous efforts and support from all parties, said Minister of National Unity Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
In conjunction with today’s World Book and Copyright Day, he emphasised the three main commitments of the MADANI government in its efforts to achieve the aspiration.
These include empowering rural and community libraries as knowledge hubs, social interaction and local community development, as well as accelerating the digitalisation of libraries in line with technological developments and the needs of the current generation.
“(In addition) strengthening the country’s book and publishing industry, including supporting the ecosystem of writing, publishing and distribution of quality reading materials,” he posted on Facebook.
Aaron said the National Library of Malaysia (PNM), an agency under the Ministry of National Unity, is the lead agency in efforts to promote a reading culture in the country.
“Plato once said, ‘Books give a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything’,” he said.
