Malaysia, China Strengthen Cooperation to Combat Cyber Scams

BEIJING, October 13 2026, Malaysia and China are stepping up security cooperation to tackle cyber scams and cross-border crimes, with investigations and the recovery of stolen assets among their key priorities.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said stronger bilateral cooperation would enhance intelligence sharing, coordinate enforcement operations and strengthen law enforcement efforts under the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.

He said cyber scams affect victims of various nationalities, making cooperation between Malaysia and China essential in addressing the growing threat.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, is on a five-day working visit to Beijing and Tianjin that began on Oct 12.

He added that both countries were also working together to combat drug smuggling through a joint security committee, with the Royal Malaysia Police maintaining close cooperation with China’s National Narcotics Control Commission.

Malaysia also joined a programme under the International Alliance Against Telecommunications and Cyber Fraud on Sept 10, focusing on cross-border investigations and recovering assets stolen through cybercrime.

Ahmad Zahid said the Cybercrime Bill, tabled in the Dewan Rakyat last July, was another step towards strengthening Malaysia’s legal framework to address cybercrime.
