Malaysia Provides US$1 Million To Support Nepal’s Flood Recovery

PUTRAJAYA, October 14 2026, Malaysia has extended US$1 million in humanitarian aid to Nepal to support relief and recovery efforts following severe flooding on Aug 26.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan presented the contribution to Nepal’s Chargé d’Affaires in Kuala Lumpur, Mudita Bajracharya, at a handover ceremony in Putrajaya on Wednesday, according to the Foreign Ministry (Wisma Putra).

The ministry said the assistance demonstrated Malaysia’s continued solidarity with the Nepalese government and people as they recover from the disaster.

Mohamad also expressed Malaysia’s condolences to the victims and their families, particularly those who lost loved ones in the floods.

Meanwhile, Wisma Putra welcomed Nepal’s approval of an ordinance that shortens the waiting period for declaring people missing in disasters legally dead, from 12 years to 45 days after the incident.

The change is expected to provide affected families with greater legal and administrative certainty, the ministry said.

Nepal’s Chargé d’Affaires informed Malaysia that the Nepalese government was finalising the ordinance’s details and procedures for implementation.

Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nepal’s recovery and reconstruction efforts, underscoring its continued dedication to international humanitarian assistance.
