Malaysia, Singapore Strengthen Education Cooperation to Benefit Students and Teachers

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Singapore are committed to strengthening cooperation in education to create more opportunities for students and teachers in both countries, said Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek.

In a Facebook post today, Fadhlina said the matter was discussed during a meeting with her Singaporean counterpart, Desmond Lee.

Among the key areas discussed was improving students’ English proficiency through the Malaysia-Singapore English Volunteers Programme (MSEVP).

The two sides also explored a Malay language teacher exchange programme to facilitate the sharing of teaching experiences and methodologies.

Fadhlina said the collaboration would also cover the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, including the sharing of Malaysia’s experience in implementing the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (DELIMa), a digital learning platform.

In addition, both countries aim to expand school networking programmes to give students opportunities to experience cultural diversity and learn alongside their peers from the neighbouring country.

She noted that each country has its own strengths in education that could be shared and developed through mutual cooperation.

“Most importantly, this cooperation must benefit teachers and students,” she said.
