Malaysia, Singapore to Expand School Networking and Education Cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Singapore are looking to expand school networking programmes and strengthen educational cooperation to create more opportunities for students and teachers in both countries, said Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek.

In a Facebook post today, Fadhlina said the matter was discussed during a meeting with her Singaporean counterpart, Desmond Lee.

She said both countries explored ways to improve students’ English proficiency through the Malaysia-Singapore English Volunteers Programme (MSEVP).

The discussions also covered a Malay language teacher exchange programme aimed at encouraging the sharing of teaching experiences and methods.

Fadhlina said the collaboration would extend to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, including sharing Malaysia’s experience with its Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (DELIMa) digital learning platform.

She added that both sides intended to broaden school networking initiatives, allowing students to experience different cultures and learn alongside their peers from across the border.

According to Fadhlina, Malaysia and Singapore each have distinct strengths in education that could be shared to improve learning and teaching practices.

“Most importantly, this collaboration must benefit both teachers and students,” she said.
