SINGAPORE, July 30 — A 31-year-old Malaysian man was arrested after Singapore authorities discovered more than 4,300 vape pods concealed inside a Malaysian-registered van attempting to enter the country through the Woodlands Checkpoint.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by officers from Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), who intercepted the vehicle for further inspection.
During a thorough search, officers uncovered specially modified hidden compartments built into the van’s roof and side panels. Inside the concealed spaces, authorities found more than 4,300 vape pods and one electronic cigarette.
ICA released a video of the operation, showing officers dismantling parts of the vehicle to access the hidden compartments and recover the prohibited items.
The Malaysian driver was arrested at the scene, while the seized vape products were handed over as evidence.
The case has been referred to Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA), which is conducting further investigations into the attempted smuggling of the prohibited products.
Singapore maintains strict regulations on electronic cigarettes and vaping products, with the importation, distribution and possession of such items subject to enforcement under the country’s laws.
