Malaysian Man Claims RM1 Million Deposit From 20 Years Ago, Bank Says ‘No Such Thing’

A Malaysian man was left stunned after a bank allegedly told him it had no record of a RM1 million deposit he and his wife made about 20 years ago.

According to Sin Chew Daily, the man said the money was placed in two fixed deposit accounts, each with a two-year tenure, at a bank on Aug 25, 2006.

He claimed neither account was touched for the next two decades.

In February this year, the man reportedly found a photocopy of the deposit slip while cleaning his home, prompting him to revisit the matter.

He subsequently went to the bank’s Sibu branch to withdraw the RM1 million but was allegedly told that there was no record of the deposits.

The man told Sin Chew Daily that despite providing relevant documents to the bank and authorities, he had yet to receive an explanation about the whereabouts of the money.

He later lodged a police report and returned to the bank in September with the assistance of police and an assemblyperson’s aide, but was again told that the bank had no record of the deposit.

According to the man, police told him the funds may have been transferred to the Accountant General’s Department, given that the deposit dated back 20 years.

The man said the experience was “frightening” and urged the authorities to investigate the matter further.
