Malaysians in West Asia Urged to Obey Safety Instructions

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysians residing or traveling in West Asia are urged to comply with government instructions host country regarding public security and information sharing as the security situation in the region remains uncertain.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement informed that authorities in several countries including Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, have issued strict warnings against taking photographs or recording security incidents, checkpoints or security personnel, with violations punishable by law.

“The host government has also warned residents not to spread unverified information or rumours regarding the security situation and has advised the public to rely only on official government sources.

“Malaysians are also advised to fully comply with any local movement restrictions or emergency orders issued by the host government,” the statement said.

The ministry added that the regional security situation remains uncertain with continued military activity reported in several parts of West Asia over the past 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry said it was also closely monitoring developments involving Malaysian ships and sailors operating in the Arabian Gulf following disruptions to maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

The ministry said several Malaysian-operated ships are currently in the wider Gulf region as commercial cargo traffic through the strait remains disrupted.

“As of the latest reports, all Malaysian crew members who were contacted are confirmed to be safe and well.

“Malaysian Diplomatic Missions in the region continue to liaise with relevant port authorities and shipping operators to monitor the welfare and safety of Malaysian seafarers affected by this maritime disturbance,” the statement said.
