KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Malaysia in 2025 will jump 41.2 percent to RM65.9 billion from RM46.7 billion the previous year, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM).
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the excellent performance was supported by equity injections from foreign investors and inflows in debt instruments.
“Reflecting continued confidence among foreign investors in the Malaysian economy, the cumulative FDI position is set to increase to RM1.087 trillion by the end of 2025, comprising 53.7 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), compared to 51.4 percent in 2024,” he said in a statement.
Malaysia’s direct investment abroad (DIA) recorded a net outflow of RM12.4 billion in 2025, moderating from RM35.5 billion in the previous year, DoSM added.
Accordingly, the total DIA position stands at RM589.3 billion at the end of 2025, representing 29.1 percent of GDP, down from 32.2 percent in 2024.
