SEREMBAN, July 19 – MCA has expressed support for the strategic understanding between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election yesterday, saying the move aims to avoid multi-cornered contests and ensure the formation of a stable and capable state government.
In a statement, MCA President Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong said the cooperation was not an indication of a merger between the parties, but rather a strategic arrangement where each party would maintain its own ideology, position and role as a check and balance.
Wee said MCA’s participation was aimed at ensuring that the interests of the Chinese community, the multiracial society, vernacular education and religious freedom would continue to have representation and a voice in government.
He stressed that the cooperation was based on the interests of the people rather than unconditional support, adding that MCA would oppose any policies that could affect the rights and welfare of Malaysians.
According to Wee, voters were seeking a government that could address real issues such as water supply, road conditions, floods, employment opportunities, business concerns and the rising cost of living, rather than prolonged political conflicts.
He said the Negeri Sembilan state election provides an opportunity for voters to choose representatives who are capable, responsive to public concerns and able to fulfil their commitments.
Wee also criticised what he described as political divisions caused by past actions of certain parties, warning that continued instability could create greater space for extreme politics.
He said BN remained the party capable of bringing together the moderate political forces, defending Malaysia’s multiracial character and establishing a stable government in Negeri Sembilan.
“Strategic understanding is for stability, while principles remain firmly upheld for the people,” Wee said, urging voters to support stability and preserve the state’s diversity.
