PUTRAJAYA, October 13 2026, The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating a viral video allegedly containing false and misleading information about the Sales and Service Tax (SST) and income tax relief under Budget 2027.
MCMC said it had received public complaints about the video, which has been circulating on social media.
The commission warned that misleading information about taxation policies could confuse the public, create unnecessary concern and influence financial decisions based on inaccurate claims.
MCMC has referred the matter to the Finance Ministry and is assessing the video’s content, the context in which it was shared and its potential impact on the public.
It said further action could be taken if any laws were breached, including Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The commission also stressed that freedom of speech must be exercised responsibly and should not be used to spread false information that could harm the public interest.
The public is advised to verify Budget 2027 information through the Finance Ministry’s official portal at www.belanjawan.mof.gov.my, Sebenarnya.my, the AIFA WhatsApp chatbot at 03-8688 7997, and the official channels of relevant authorities before sharing such claims.
