National Para Cycling Squad Led by Mohamad Yusof Hafizi for Commonwealth Games Challenge.

KUALA LUMPUR — 2025 World Champion Mohamad Yusof Hafizi Shaharuddin will lead the national para cycling squad at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with Malaysia still ready to compete despite admitting that the chance to chase a medal is not an easy task.

Deputy Para Bureau of the National Cycling Federation of Malaysia (PKBM) Ramlay Ibrahim said that apart from the 28-year-old rider, the national team is also represented by another rider and two pairs of male and female tandem cyclists, making a total of three events to be participated in.

“We have got a slot to go to the Commonwealth Games but it will be quite difficult to get a medal because the competition is expected to be fierce.

“Our standard is more or less, but they (other Commonwealth countries) may be a little better than us,” he said after the Working Committee Meeting (JKK) at the National Sports Council (MSN), here, today.

He said the selection of athletes was made based on current performance including achievements in several international championships such as the last edition of the World Championships.

Currently, the national para cycling squad is undergoing training at the Malaysian National Velodrome, Nilai.

Among the events contested at the Commonwealth Games this time are the tandem sprint, one kilometre (km) tandem time trial, 1km time trial C1-3, as well as the C1-3 individual pursuit for men and women.

The para cycling events will take place from July 30 to August 2 at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow.
