SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has reminded the coalition’s leaders and machinery not to betray the party if they are not selected as candidates in the 16th State Election (PRN).
Aminuddin, who is also the chairman of the Negeri Sembilan PKR State Leadership Council (MPN), said all parties must accept the party’s decision and continue to work to ensure PH’s victory in the state.
“To all party members and machinery, I beg you, whatever the name of the candidate and the one chosen by our leadership, do not betray them, continue to support them… this is a life and death struggle,” he said when speaking at the PH Election Machinery Launching program here last night.
The Menteri Besar said the matter was important because he did not want to hear issues related to “candidates or not candidates” arising in any State Legislative Assembly (DUN), instead calling on all parties to give their full support in the election.
Also present were Prime Minister and PH Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and other top leaders including PKR Information Chief who is also Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
Aminuddin also asked all voters who live outside Negeri Sembilan to return to carry out their voting responsibilities in their respective state assemblies.
“Go back and vote, those sitting outside please go back… if possible we want 80 percent to vote, not just 70 percent. This is our space, opportunity and time to carry out our responsibility by voting,” he said.
The Negeri Sembilan State Assembly, which has 36 seats, was officially dissolved on June 5 after receiving the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
The Election Commission (EC) has set the polling day for the Negeri Sembilan state election on August 1, the nomination date is July 18, while July 28 is set for early voting.
The 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election saw PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) form the state government after controlling 31 out of 36 seats.
PH won 17 seats and BN secured 14 seats while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won five seats.
Negeri Sembilan became the second state to dissolve the state assembly to make way for the general election after Johor did so on June 1.
