REPAH, July 25 — DAP Deputy National Chairman and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has called on political parties to focus on national unity, development and the people’s welfare, urging leaders to avoid rhetoric that could undermine racial harmony during the 2026 Negeri Sembilan state election campaign.
Speaking at the “Kekal Harapan” grand dinner in Repah on Friday night, Nga said Malaysia’s diversity should continue to be regarded as one of the country’s greatest strengths, noting that the nation has enjoyed nearly seven decades of independence.
He said political discourse should reflect the country’s multicultural character and encourage mutual respect among Malaysians from all backgrounds.
Nga also criticised recent remarks by PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and PAS Election Director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, saying political leaders should avoid statements that could be perceived as divisive or undermine national unity.
He urged all parties to place greater emphasis on policies and governance rather than issues that could create unnecessary divisions among the people.
“Malaysia has been built through the contributions of people from different communities. Unity and harmony remain the foundation for the country’s continued progress and prosperity,” he said.
Nga also highlighted several achievements of the Pakatan Harapan-led Negeri Sembilan administration, saying the state recorded RM19.1 billion in investments, its highest-ever state reserves of RM1.31 billion, record state revenue and four consecutive years of budget surpluses.
He said the state government had also expanded welfare initiatives, including assistance for senior citizens, single mothers, public university students, newly married couples and families with newborn children, as well as providing free bus services.
On federal initiatives, Nga said the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) had delivered 1,385 Rumah Mesra Rakyat units in Negeri Sembilan over the past four years to assist lower-income families in securing affordable housing.
He also pointed to the revival of the previously delayed PR1MA Rantau housing project, which enabled more than 700 purchasers to receive the keys to their homes.
Nga said the collaboration between the Federal Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Negeri Sembilan Government under Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun had contributed to the state’s development momentum.
He expressed confidence that continued cooperation between both administrations would further strengthen economic growth and improve the well-being of Negeri Sembilan residents.
The dinner, attended by more than 2,000 people, was also attended by Repah state seat candidate P. Veerapan, DAP National Chairman Gobind Singh Deo and DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke.
