No Compromise on Violence and Religious Provocation, PDRM Urged to Take Firm Action – Aaron

PUTRAJAYA — Any form of violence, religious provocation, hatred or extreme actions that touch on racial and religious sensitivities are completely unacceptable in a multi-racial and multi-religious country like Malaysia, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.

He said the Ministry of National Unity (KPN) viewed seriously the three recent incidents that had the potential to threaten the harmony of society in the country and wanted action against extremists who tried to threaten the peace of the country to be carried out without compromise.

“In this regard, I request the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against any parties involved, in line with existing legal provisions,” he said in a statement today.

Aaron was referring to the incident of a vehicle belonging to a community activist known as Cikgu Chandra, which was set on fire by irresponsible parties and a viral video showing a man stepping on and damaging the sacred symbol of Hinduism, Trisul, which clearly caused outrage among followers of the religion.

In addition, it included the attack on independent preacher Zamri Vinoth, which also raised concerns about individual safety and public order.

Aaron said Malaysia was built on the foundation of unity, mutual respect and understanding between religions and cultures, and these values must continue to be upheld by every level of society.

“I call on all citizens not to act emotionally, not to spread speculation, and to always be prudent in reacting to sensitive issues, especially on social media. Any differences of opinion should be dealt with through the right channels and based on the law,” he said.
