OpenAI Accuses Former Employee of Taking Confidential Device Files to Apple

ISTANBUL 15 October 2026, OpenAI has accused a former employee who rejoined Apple of taking more than 100 highly confidential files related to an unreleased device under development, according to a legal filing reported by The Wall Street Journal and cited by Anadolu Ajansi.

The filing alleged that the files contained sensitive engineering and manufacturing data, supplier details and internal project documents.

OpenAI claimed the former employee sent some of the files to himself shortly after midnight on June 2, his final day at the artificial intelligence company following a six-month stint before returning to Apple.

The filing further alleged that he presented OpenAI’s product plans to Apple executives, including a vice-president of operations in Asia. OpenAI said the information may have helped Apple advance its plans for AI-powered products, including smart home devices announced on Tuesday.

Apple rejected the allegations, saying it had found no evidence to support the claims. The company also said OpenAI had not responded to requests for additional information to assist its investigation.

Apple, in turn, accused OpenAI of attempting to divert attention from evidence in the dispute that it claimed showed its own confidential information had been taken by employees who left to join the AI company.
