Police Bust Drug Syndicate Using Unregistered Place of Worship as Storage Facility

SHAH ALAM: Selangor police have uncovered a suspected drug trafficking operation that allegedly used an unregistered place of worship in Klang as a drug storage facility during operations conducted across the state from Oct 13 to 19.

Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said a local man working part-time at the premises was arrested to assist investigations after police discovered 20.6 kilogrammes of drugs in a storeroom there.

Checks found that the land had been gazetted for a sewage treatment site.

In separate raids in Rawang and at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), police arrested seven individuals aged between 19 and 48, comprising four Malaysians and three foreign nationals.

The operations resulted in the seizure of various drugs, including 81.3kg of cannabis buds, 37kg of cannabis, 25.4kg of ketamine, 3,510 cartridges containing ketamine and 84 bottles of ecstasy.

The total value of the drugs seized was estimated at RM16.2 million. Police also seized two cars, a motorcycle and local and foreign currencies amounting to RM54,835.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In a separate case, Shazeli said preliminary investigations indicated that allegations of theft and damage to the employer’s belongings were believed to have led to the abuse of a foreign domestic worker, who suffered burns across her body in Tanjong Sepat, Kuala Langat.

He said the woman had started working for her employer late last year.

The alleged abuse is believed to have occurred on Oct 16. Five individuals, including three women, were remanded for four days from Oct 20 to assist in the investigation.
