KUALA LUMPUR — US semiconductor and chip design giant Qualcomm is reportedly planning to reduce its global workforce as part of a restructuring effort aimed at strengthening its performance-driven culture.
According to Amanz, citing a report by Reuters, the company has yet to disclose the number of employees who will be affected.
Qualcomm had approximately 52,000 employees worldwide as of the end of September 2025, according to its latest annual report.
An internal memo reportedly stated that the move was intended to build a stronger performance culture and address persistent underperformance within the company.
Notifications to affected employees are expected to begin in stages in November, following the completion of the annual performance review process.
The reported restructuring comes as Qualcomm faces a more challenging global smartphone market while expanding into other sectors, including artificial intelligence (AI), data centres and automotive technology.
The company has previously indicated that it expects most of its chip sales to come from non-smartphone segments by fiscal year 2027, reducing its reliance on the mobile device market.
The strategic shift reflects growing demand for AI infrastructure and high-performance computing, particularly in large-scale data centres.
