Sarawak polls could come ‘very soon’, says PBB Women’s Wing

KUALA LUMPUR August 22  2026: The Sarawak state election could be held “very soon”, according to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Wing chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

Fatimah, who is also Sarawak Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, said preparations for the election were already being carried out, although the final decision on the timing remained with the state leadership.

She said PBB, as a key component of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition, was ready to face the election whenever the state government decides to call it.

The current Sarawak Legislative Assembly’s term is approaching its end, putting preparations for the next state election increasingly in focus.

Fatimah also stressed the importance of maintaining unity and ensuring the coalition remained focused on serving the people and safeguarding Sarawak’s interests.

The Sarawak election will determine the composition of the next state government, with GPS expected to remain a major force in the contest.
