Selangor Police bust two syndicates, seize over 200 kg of drugs.

SHAH ALAM — Police have successfully busted two drug trafficking syndicates and seized more than 200 kilograms (kg) of methamphetamine and cannabis flowers worth RM14.6 million in raids at several locations in Selangor earlier this month.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said in the first case, four foreigners including a woman aged 20 to 30 from Europe were arrested in three series of arrests starting March 3.

He said the arrests began when a man believed to be a drug mule was arrested at an airport terminal which led to the seizure of a luggage containing 49 plastic packages containing dried leaves suspected of being cannabis flowers with an estimated weight of 27.2 kg believed to be intended for taking abroad.

“Following the arrest, the next day, police arrested another foreign man believed to be the main mastermind at a house around Kota Warisan and seized a luggage containing 25 plastic packages containing dried leaves suspected of being cannabis flowers with an estimated weight of 14.3 kg,” he said in a press conference at the Senior Officers’ Mess Building of the Selangor Police Contingent (IPK) Headquarters here today.

Shazeli said that as a result of interrogation, his party then arrested two foreigners including a woman on March 5 at a condominium in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur and seized five suitcases containing 136 packages containing dried leaves believed to be marijuana flowers, weighing an estimated 74.8 kg.

“All the individuals began entering Malaysia between the end of December last year and the middle of last month using tourist passes. They are also believed to be from the same syndicate network,” he said.

Shazeli said the value of the drugs seized weighing 116.3 kg in the case was estimated at RM9.35 million and believed to be for the overseas market.

He said that for the next case, two men including a foreigner were arrested around Gombak on March 3.

“Police also seized five canvas bags containing 64 plastic packages labelled ‘Daguanyin’ containing drugs suspected to be syabu, weighing an estimated 105.1 kg, which were found in the back of a van used by the suspect.

“The value of the drugs seized in this case amounted to RM5.25 million. “This syndicate has also been active for the past month and the drugs are believed to be marketed around the Klang Valley,” he said.

Shazeli said the results of the check found that the 34-year-old local suspect worked as a courier company delivery man while the 47-year-old foreigner worked at a temple around Batu Caves.

All suspects in both cases are now remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
