KUALA LUMPUR, 14 October 2026, Malaysia’s squash star S. Sivasangari has reached the semi-finals of the Egyptian Open 2026 after producing a remarkable comeback victory in Giza on Tuesday.
The fourth seed recovered from two games down to defeat Egypt’s seventh seed and home favourite, Fayrouz Aboelkheir, 9-11, 4-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 on the tournament’s glass court, set against the backdrop of the Great Pyramids. The 27-year-old’s victory secured her first-ever semi-final appearance at a Diamond-level event.
However, Sivasangari faces a tough challenge next as she takes on defending champion and top seed Hania El Hammamy of Egypt.
El Hammamy booked her place in the last four after defeating Japan’s Satomi Watanabe in a five-game battle, winning 9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 11-5. World No. 2 El Hammamy holds a 10-2 head-to-head advantage over world No. 5 Sivasangari.
Sivasangari’s most recent victory over the Egyptian came at the London Squash Classic in 2024, when she won a closely contested five-game match. The Malaysian will now look to overcome the odds and secure a place in the Egyptian Open final.
