Swift Action to Shield Malaysia’s Economy Amid Global Risks — PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25, 2026 — Malaysia is taking proactive steps to safeguard its economic resilience amid rising global uncertainties, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said after chairing the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) Meeting No. 3/2026.

The meeting focused on assessing current geopolitical developments, mounting global economic pressures, and security implications following ongoing conflicts in West Asia.

Despite the ongoing Aidilfitri festive period, Anwar stressed that the government remains firmly committed to prioritising the well-being of the rakyat, particularly in addressing the rising cost of living.

“Although we are still in the festive season of Aidilfitri, the people’s welfare — especially the cost of living — remains the MADANI Government’s top priority. Several early, proactive and decisive intervention measures will be implemented immediately to ensure the nation’s economic resilience is preserved,” he said.

The Prime Minister added that the government is intensifying efforts to ensure energy security, including diversifying supply sources and exploring alternative routes to reduce reliance on high-risk passages such as the Strait of Hormuz.

“We are mobilising all necessary efforts to guarantee energy supply security, including diversifying sources and identifying alternative routes to minimise dependence on risk-prone channels like the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.

Anwar assured that the situation will be closely monitored, with transparent updates provided to the public as developments unfold.

“In facing these challenges, calmness, discipline, and a strong sense of unity are crucial to ensure that the nation remains stable and resilient,” he added.
