BN Respects PH Manifesto – Ahmad Zahid

JOHOR BAHRU, July 3 -- Barisan Nasional (BN) respects Pakatan Harapan's (PH) manifesto for the 16th Johor State Election (PRN) to be held on July 11. BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that as a country that practices a democratic system, the political coalition always welcomes any offer from any party contesting. "I have studied the manifesto... we respect what they propose," he told reporters after the Leadership Engagement Ceremony with Parents of Tabika Kemas Bangsa Johor at the Larkin Court 1 Housing Flats here today. Also present were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and candidate for the Larkin State Assembly seat Mohd Hairi Mad Shah. Earlier, PH launched a manifesto with 10 offers, including the Johor Health Scheme, deposit assistance for first-time homeowners, a RM500 million fund allocation to empower the development of the younger generation and the empowerment of the education sector. Meanwhile, Ahmad Zahid in his speech said the BN manifesto was based on the record of excellence of the state government last term which successfully realised more than 90 percent of the promises made previously. He said this manifesto was drafted comprehensively to cater to every level of society without marginalizing any race or social background. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Rural and Regional Development, said the benefits offered cover various levels of people's lives, from pregnant mothers, children, school students, university students to single mothers and fathers. "As long as anyone lives in Johor, they are considered part of the Johor people and receive the same benefits," he said. At the same time, he assured that he would continue to assist in the development of Johor as long as he led the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development. Johor Polls: Suhaizan Confident PH Can Reclaim Larkin If Voter Turnout Improves

JOHOR BAHRU, June 30 -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Larkin seat, Suhaizan Kaiat, is optimistic about recapturing the seat from Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 16th Johor state election. He said his confidence is based on voting patterns seen during the 14th General Election (GE14), which demonstrated that BN could be defeated in the constituency when voter turnout is high. According to Suhaizan, the outcome of the 2022 Johor state election should not be treated as a definitive benchmark, as turnout then stood at only 51 per cent due to limitations brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The more accurate picture is reflected in the general election. If turnout in this state election improves, then our chances of winning will be stronger,” he told Bernama after an engagement with constituents in Larkin today. The Pulai Member of Parliament also believes there is potential support from Bersatu voters to shift towards PH following recent political developments affecting the relationship between Bersatu and PAS. Suhaizan said PH’s previous cooperation with Bersatu in an earlier political alliance could encourage Bersatu supporters to back him, particularly as Bersatu is not fielding a candidate in Larkin this time. In GE14, the Larkin seat was won by Datuk Mohd Izhar Ahmad, who contested under the PH (Bersatu) banner, before BN’s Mohd Hairi Mad Shah reclaimed the seat in the 2022 Johor state election. In this election, Suhaizan faces a three-cornered contest against Bersama candidate Norsinah Abu and incumbent Mohd Hairi. Johor Polls: Rain Forecast In Seven Districts On Nomination Day

JOHOR BAHRU, June 26 -- Rain is forecast to affect seven of the 10 districts in the state tomorrow morning, potentially posing a slight “challenge” for prospective candidates and supporters on nomination day for the Johor state election.  Johor director of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Azlai Ta’at, said rain is expected in Johor Bahru, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi, Pontian, Tangkak and Kulai. However, clear weather is expected in the morning in the other three districts of Segamat, Kluang and Mersing. “Minimum temperatures across the state are expected to range between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures will be between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, with Segamat recording the highest at up to 34 degrees Celsius. “The public, including supporters of contesting candidates, are advised to stay alert to any changes in weather conditions,” he told Bernama here today. Thunderstorms are also expected to mark the start of the campaigning period, which will officially begin immediately after the nomination process ends tomorrow. MetMalaysia forecast thunderstorms in Johor Bahru, Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi, Pontian, Mersing and Kulai in the afternoon, while Batu Pahat and Tangkak are expected to experience rain, and Muar is forecast to be hot. The nomination process is scheduled to take place from 9 am to 10 am at 56 nomination centres, before the official announcement of eligible candidates is made by returning officers. Pakatan Harapan is fielding candidates in all 56 seats, involving 20 from PKR, 19 from Amanah and 17 from DAP. Barisan Nasional is also contesting 56 seats, fielding 36 UMNO candidates, 16 MCA candidates and four MIC candidates. Perikatan Nasional has announced that PAS will contest 11 seats, Bersatu 16, the Malaysian Indian People’s Party five and Pejuang one. The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance will contest four seats, Parti Sosialis Malaysia one, while Parti Bersama Malaysia is set to make its debut by contesting 15 seats. The Election Commission (EC) has set July 7 for early voting and July 11 as polling day. According to EC statistics, the election involves 2,727,926 registered voters, comprising 2,703,175 ordinary voters, 12,041 military personnel and spouses, and 12,710 police personnel and spouses.
