Simpang Renggam crash: Teenager remanded for 4 days for murder investigation

KLUANG, JUNE 5 -- The 19-year-old male driver involved in an accident that claimed five lives on Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam last Monday was remanded today for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The teenager involved was remanded for four days until next Monday after a remand order was issued by Judge Mujib Saroji at the Kluang Sessions Court, here this morning. Earlier, the suspect, wearing a brown shirt, arrived at the courthouse at 8.45am, closely escorted by police officers. The suspect was previously released on police bail after being remanded for three days until yesterday for investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. However, the police re-arrested the suspect to enable an investigation to be conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The accident on June 1 at Kilometer 27, Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam caused a family of four who were travelling in a Toyota Vios, including a 10-year-old girl, to die at the scene. The teenager is suspected of driving a Mercedes Benz A250 recklessly and dangerously alongside a BMW 530e driven by his 22-year-old brother, who also died on the way to the hospital. -- BERNAMA

Police Officer, Wife Killed In Crash Near Pekan

KUANTAN, May 27 -- A police officer and his wife were killed, while their four children were injured after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with another car at KM76 of Jalan Kuantan-Segamat near Pekan early this morning. Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin said the victims were Inspector Syah Lokman Ludza Ramli, 50, who served at the Kuantan District Police Headquarters, and his wife Nurulfiza Ardiana Ambak, 46, both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. He said the accident is believed to have occurred at about 3 am and involved a Proton Wira driven by the victim and a Honda City. “Initial investigations found that the Honda City, driven by a 26-year-old man, was travelling from Gelang Patah to Terengganu, while the Proton Wira driven by the victim was heading from Kuantan towards Jempol. “Upon arriving at the scene, the driver of Proton Wira is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before veering into the opposite lane and colliding with the Honda City,” he said in a statement today. He said the driver of the Honda City sustained minor injuries, while his 26-year-old wife, who is 22 weeks pregnant, is receiving treatment at the Emergency Zone of Muadzam Shah Hospital. “Four children of Syah Lokman and Nurulfiza Ardiana, aged between 10 and 18, were also injured and are receiving treatment at the same hospital, including one who suffered a fractured left leg,” he said. The bodies of both victims were sent to Pekan Hospital for post-mortem examinations, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. -- BERNAMA
