BN not threatened by the existence of new political parties – Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir

TANJUNG MALIM, JUNE 16 -- The establishment of a new political party in the country will not affect the chances of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections. BN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said his party had made thorough preparations to face the two state elections by focusing fully on work in the areas that will be contested. He said that in a democratic system, every party has the right to establish a new political party, but BN remains consistent with the strategy and level of preparedness that has been planned. "UMNO and Johor BN have made thorough preparations. I am confident that the establishment of the new party will not affect BN based on the focus given to the work that has been arranged," he said. He said this to reporters when asked whether the existence of the National Vision Party and the United Malaysia Party (BERSAMA) could threaten BN's position in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections. Earlier, Zambry, who is also the Minister of Higher Education, officiated the National Service Training Pilot Programme (PLKN) 3.0 at the Public University Level before attending the launch of the book titled 'Nahas Gerik: UPSI Berduka' at the Sultan Idris Education University (UPSI) here today. The Johor state election will be held on July 11, while the Negeri Sembilan state election will be held on August 1. The Johor State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has 56 seats with BN controlling 40 seats, followed by Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional (PN) with three seats and MUDA with one seat. For the Negeri Sembilan state assembly, PH has 17 out of 36 seats, followed by BN with 14 seats and PN with five seats. -- BERNAMA

United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) Focuses on People’s Welfare, Welcomes No Immediate Election Signals – Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki

MANJUNG -- UMNO welcomes Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement hinting that the 16th General Election (GE16) will not be held in the near future, instead stressing that priority must be given to efforts to address the people's cost of living challenges. UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said that in the current situation where the country is facing global uncertainty, all parties should put aside the power struggle and focus fully on the welfare of the people. "Currently, the country is facing a major crisis, so it is appropriate for us not to think too much about the struggle for power and position alone." "What is most important is that the country's leaders continue to focus on how to ensure that the people are able to cope with the increasingly high cost of living," he said. He said this after officiating the Simultaneous Opening Ceremony of the 2026 UMNO Branch Conference and the Lumut Division UMNO Aidilfitri Banquet at the Merdeka Hall, Manjung Municipal Council here today. Also present was UMNO Supreme Working Council member (MKT) Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir, who is also the Lumut UMNO Division Chief. Yesterday, Anwar hinted that the Dewan Rakyat would not be dissolved in the near future to make way for the 16th general election, but rather that the government wanted to focus on economic recovery and the well-being of the people. Asyraf Wajdi said the increase in world oil prices due to geopolitical factors and international conflicts were among the main challenges beyond the country's control, thus directly impacting the people's daily expenses. "The approach suggested by the Prime Minister reflects the value of responsibility and high concern for the reality that the people are currently facing." "In the context of Barisan Nasional (BN), our stance is clear, which is to focus on our best efforts to help the people. When the people are facing a crisis, it is more important for us to focus on their welfare and well-being," he said. -- BERNAMA
