Election Commission Reviews Ballot Box Preparations for 16th Johor State Election

JOHOR, JULY 10 -- The Election Commission (EC) conducted a review session to inspect the contents of ballot boxes in preparation for the 16th Johor State Election. The inspection was led by YBhg. Dato' Sri Ramlan bin Dato' Harun, Chairman of the Election Commission (EC), accompanied by EC Members and the Commission's management team. The review took place at the Intan Jubilee Hall in Pontian and the Permas Multipurpose Hall in Kukup, where officials examined the ballot box contents to ensure all election materials were complete and in accordance with established procedures. Meanwhile, YBrs. Dr. Azmi Sharom, Deputy Chairman of the Election Commission, also carried out inspections at SMK Bandar Dato' Onn and the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP). He was joined by EC Members and the Commission's management team during the verification process. Additional electoral roll for May 2026 open for review – EC

PUTRAJAYA: The review of the Supplementary Electoral Register for May 2026 (DPT BLN5/2026) can be carried out for a period of 30 days from today until July 29, said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus. He said DPT BLN5/2026 was certified yesterday and gazetted today, containing 40,139 names of citizens aged 18 and above in the period from May 1, 2026 to May 31, 2026 who were automatically registered as new voters. Apart from that, the DPT concerned contains 23,902 registered voters who changed constituencies and 3,400 voters who changed voter category or status. "The EC calls on citizens aged 18 and above between May 1 and May 31, 2026 and any registered voters who have applied for a change of constituency or change of voter category or status to check their names in DPT BLN5/2026," he said in a statement today. He said checks can be made via the EC portal via the link https://www.spr.gov.my or https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my, the official state election office portal http://ppn.spr.gov.my, the online application https://myspr.spr.gov.my, the MySPR Semak mobile application or the Voter Registration Check line 03-8892 7218. Khairul Shahril said if they find their names are not listed in DPT BLN5/2026, they can make a claim by filling out Form C via the online application via the link https://myspr.spr.gov.my or attending the relevant State Election Office. Any registered voter in an electoral division who makes a check and wishes to object to the entry of the name of a voter who made a change to his or her electoral division can do so by filling out Form D via the online application https://myspr.spr.gov.my or attending the relevant State Election Office. Special Meeting On Johor Polls To Be Held June 12 – EC

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 -- A special meeting on the 16th Johor State Election will be held on June 12, the Election Commission (EC) said. EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the commission had received a notice from Johor State Assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi on the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly on June 2, as provided under Article 23(2) of Part Two of the Laws of the Constitution of Johor 1895. “Article 23(4) of Part Two of the Laws of the Constitution of Johor 1895 provides that an election is to be conducted within 60 days from the date of the dissolution of the State Assembly. “The special meeting, to be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, will discuss key dates for the 16th Johor state election, including the writ of election, nomination day, polling day, the electoral roll to be used, and other preparations for the election,” he said in a statement today. He added that a press conference would be held immediately after the special meeting. The Johor State Assembly was dissolved on June 1 following the consent of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail. In a separate statement, Khairul Shahril said applications for postal voting, both within and outside the country, for the 16th Johor state election are now open online at https://myspr.spr.gov.my starting today. It covers postal voting applications for all categories, namely Category 1A (police personnel, military personnel, election officials, EC members/ officers, and media personnel), Category 1B (Malaysian citizens living abroad), and Category 1C (agencies and organisations). “All postal voting applications must be made online. Eligible voters who wish to vote by post must register or have a MySPR account before submitting their application,” he said. Khairul Shahril said the closing date for postal voting applications for all categories would be announced later. PUTRAJAYA, May 21 -- Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun has confirmed that no by-elections will be held for the Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats yesterday. He said the matter was based on Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution, whereby Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul had informed the EC that there was no necessity to fill the casual vacancies. “In line with that, no by-election for the P.100 Pandan and P.118 Setiawangsa parliamentary constituencies will be held,” he said in a statement today. He said the EC received notification from Johari through a letter dated today regarding the status of the two parliamentary seats after they were declared vacant under Article 51 of the Federal Constitution. On Sunday (May 17), Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who is also a former PKR deputy president, and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, a former PKR vice-president, announced that they would vacate their parliamentary seats on Monday and leave the party effective Tuesday through letters submitted to the party secretary-general.
