Another individual arrested to assist in Sunway Mentari murder investigation

KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 16 -- Police have arrested another individual to assist in investigations into the murder of a man at a hotel in Sunway Mentari, Petaling Jaya on July 8. Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the man, in his 40s, was arrested last Monday and remanded for four days until tomorrow to assist in the investigation. He said the remand period of two men in their 20s and 30s who were previously detained expired today, and would be extended to assist with investigations. "The investigation papers regarding this case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor this week," he said in a statement today. Previously, the media reported that a man in his 30s was found unconscious in a hotel before being reported dead at 11.23pm. Initial examination found signs of injury on the victim's body, and the results of the autopsy at the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) confirmed the cause of death was severe injuries due to the impact of a blunt object. -- BERNAMA

Man Killed In Hit-and-run After Changing Tyre On Highway

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 -- A man was killed in a hit-and-run incident while removing a warning marker placed behind his vehicle after changing a flat tyre at KM13 of the Cheras-Kajang Highway last night. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said that in the 10 pm incident, the 46-year-old man, who was driving a silver Toyota Innova with five passengers, had stopped on the road shoulder to change a flat tyre. "After changing the tyre, the victim walked to the rear of his vehicle to remove a bucket that had been placed as a warning marker for other road users when a red Toyota Innova struck him. "The driver of the red Toyota Innova then fled the scene without stopping," he said in a statement today. Naazron said the driver of the silver Toyota Innova was pronounced dead at the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Insp Nur Faezah Mohd Zakria at 012-3268496 to assist in the investigation. Police arrest five individuals to assist in investigation into beating, rioting case

MELAKA , July 6 --  Five men have been arrested to assist in investigations into a riot that resulted in serious injuries to two men in Jalan Pengkalan, Kampung Pengkalan Rama Pantai, here early Sunday morning. Acting Central Melaka District Police Chief Supt Halim Abas said his department received information about a fight involving a group of men at the location via the MERS 999 emergency line at 1.48 am.  "Initial investigations found that the incident occurred at about 1 am when two men, aged 41 and 46, riding a motorcycle allegedly stopped in an area near a temple to pick up a motorcycle that had been abandoned at the location. "While in the area, they were believed to have been attacked by a group of men using plastic chairs, helmets and a stick, causing one victim to suffer lacerations to his forehead and chin, while another suffered a fractured skull," he said in a statement yesterday. He said both victims were sent to the Melaka Hospital for further treatment and one of them was placed in the Red Zone. Halim said acting on information, five men aged between 23 and 34 were successfully arrested on the same day to assist in the investigation. "Initial checks found that two of the suspects have past criminal records, while the other three have no criminal records. All suspects have been remanded for six days starting today to assist in the investigation," he said. He said the case was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing serious injury using a weapon or dangerous instrument and Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting using a weapon. -- BERNAMA

Fire Destroys Keropok Shop, RM500,000 Lost

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 23 -- A keropok (fish cracker) trader in Kampung Losong Su here suffered losses estimated at RM500,000 after his premises were destroyed in an early morning fire today. Shop owner Rohaimi Mohd, 43, said he discovered the incident at about 5.40 am after checking CCTV footage on his mobile phone shortly after waking up. The businessman, who has operated the family enterprise for the past 12 years, said the fire was still in its early stages when he arrived at the premises. Still, his attempts to extinguish it were unsuccessful. “When I arrived, the fire had not spread extensively. I managed to enter the office, switched off the main power supply and tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but failed. My hair and skin were slightly burnt. In less than 10 minutes, the fire grew rapidly, and I had to get out to save myself,” he said when met at the scene today, just 50 metres from his house. Rohaimi, who inherited the business from his late uncle, said the blaze destroyed stock worth RM170,000, including new supplies received just two days ago. Also destroyed were 22 refrigerators and freezers, as well as a Yamaha NVX motorcycle. “I am at a loss thinking about my family's future because we depend entirely on this business for our livelihood. “My four employees also rely on this business to support their families. At the moment, I can only pray that Allah will show us a way through this hardship,” said the father of four. Meanwhile, the officer-in-charge of the Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station, Thoyibbah Taib, said they received a report about the fire at 6.28 am, and quickly deployed three fire engines and 18 personnel to the scene to carry out firefighting and rescue operations. “The blaze was brought under control and fully extinguished by 6.49 am. Perak Education Dept Cooperates Fully With Police Into Student Fall

IPOH, June 23 -- The Perak State Education Department (JPN) is fully cooperating with police in the investigation into an incident involving a Form One student who was reported to have fallen from a building at a school yesterday. In a statement today, JPN Perak said that besides assisting the police investigation, it had also initiated an internal inquiry to examine all aspects related to the incident. “The student is currently receiving treatment in hospital. We pray for his speedy recovery and for his family to be granted strength and patience in facing this difficult situation. “JPN Perak has taken the necessary measures to ensure the student’s family receives appropriate welfare assistance and support. Psychosocial assistance has also been extended to members of the school community affected by the incident,” the statement said. The department also urged the public to allow the authorities to conduct their investigation and to respect the privacy and sensitivities of the family during this challenging time.  The 13-year-old student was reported to be in critical condition after allegedly falling from a building within the grounds of the school.  The victim was subsequently taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for further treatment. -- BERNAMA

Simpang Renggam crash: Teenager remanded for murder investigation

MUAR: The 19-year-old male driver involved in an accident that claimed five lives on Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam last week has been remanded for two more days until Wednesday under Section 302 of the Penal Code to allow for further investigations. The remand order against the suspect, who is also a student at a university in Singapore, was issued by Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno at the Muar Magistrate's Court, after the previous remand period of four days until today ended. Kluang District Police Chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the remand application was made to complete the investigation into the incident. "The previous investigation, which is under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, is still ongoing based on the viral video involving the suspect driving speedily and recklessly," he said when contacted by Bernama today. Earlier, last Tuesday, the first remand was carried out at the Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court under Section 42(1) for two days and was extended for a day at the Kluang Magistrate's Court. However, once the remand ended, the police re-arrested the suspect on Thursday under Section 302 of the Penal Code at the Kluang Sessions Court after the investigation papers were referred to the Attorney General's Chambers. The fatal accident claimed the lives of four members of a family, namely Semek Mat Soh, 73, Nor Azlina Latil, 33, Aiman ​​Mohd Rashid, 36 and Nur Airish Syifa Sidek, as well as the suspect's brother, 22, who was driving a BMW 530e. --BERNAMA

KLUANG, JUNE 5 -- The 19-year-old male driver involved in an accident that claimed five lives on Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam last Monday was remanded today for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The teenager involved was remanded for four days until next Monday after a remand order was issued by Judge Mujib Saroji at the Kluang Sessions Court, here this morning. Earlier, the suspect, wearing a brown shirt, arrived at the courthouse at 8.45am, closely escorted by police officers. The suspect was previously released on police bail after being remanded for three days until yesterday for investigation under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. However, the police re-arrested the suspect to enable an investigation to be conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The accident on June 1 at Kilometer 27, Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam caused a family of four who were travelling in a Toyota Vios, including a 10-year-old girl, to die at the scene. The teenager is suspected of driving a Mercedes Benz A250 recklessly and dangerously alongside a BMW 530e driven by his 22-year-old brother, who also died on the way to the hospital. -- BERNAMA

Police Resubmit Investigation Paper On Fatal Durian Tunggal Shooting To AGC

KAJANG, May 26 -- The investigation paper into a shooting that left three men dead in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, in November last year has been resubmitted to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC). Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said the investigation team had completed several additional directives requested by the prosecution, adding that the paper had already been referred to the AGC four times previously for guidance. "All AGC directives have been acted upon, and the latest investigation paper was submitted yesterday for further direction and advice. We have recorded statements from 63 witnesses to complete it," he told a press conference at the Kajang District Police Headquarters today. On the AGC's additional directives, Kumar said these included re-recording statements from several witnesses to clarify specific facts in the case. On Nov 24, 2025, three men aged between 24 and 29 were shot dead after one of them allegedly swung a parang at a police corporal at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal at around 4 am. PDRM Opens Probe Into Fake TikTok Account Insulting King

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has opened an investigation paper into defamatory and insulting content against His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, believed to have been posted via a fake TikTok account. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the investigation was being conducted by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT). “Yes, we have opened an investigation paper and are conducting further investigations through USJT, Bukit Aman CID,” he said. “At present, the investigation is being carried out under the Sedition Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentionally insulting a person with intent to provoke a breach of the peace,” he said when contacted today. He said the probe was also being carried out under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities or applications. Kumar reminded the public to be more careful when posting content on social media, particularly on matters involving the 3R issues of race, religion and royalty. “The CID will not compromise on matters that could disrupt public safety and order, to ensure that peace and prosperity are always maintained,” he said. Yesterday, Bernama reported that the Johor Royal Press Office had called for stern action to be taken against those responsible for creating a fake TikTok account to slander and insult Sultan Ibrahim. According to a post on the King’s official Facebook page, the Royal Press Office said the account, using the name “Sultan Ibrahim Ismail”, was found to be using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to spread insulting content against His Majesty. Among the uploaded content was a video containing allegations that the King of Malaysia enjoyed eating pork, a post that it described as untrue and touching on sensitivities, given that His Majesty was a Malay Ruler and the Muslim Head of State. --BERNAMA
