Johor Polls: PH’s Record Proves It Delivers, Says Aminolhuda

JOHOR BAHRU, July 3 -- Pakatan Harapan's (PH) record of delivering all the pledges in its 100-day manifesto when it governed Johor after the 14th General Election (GE14) should serve as a benchmark for voters in the upcoming Johor state election, said Johor PH chairman Aminolhuda Hassan. He said the achievement demonstrated that PH not only made election promises but also fulfilled its commitments to the people. Among the 10 initiatives delivered under the 100-day manifesto were limiting the Menteri Besar's tenure to two terms, introducing the Johor Health Card (Kad Sihat Johor), implementing an open tender system and providing 10 cubic metres of free water to eligible groups. "We also delivered a takaful scheme for senior citizens, higher education incentives, licence fee exemptions for hawkers, a 50 per cent discount on outstanding rent for People's Housing Project (PPR) units, the vertical government quota and marriage incentives for young people," he said at the launch of PH's "Johor for All" manifesto here today. Also present were PH Presidential Council member Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, Johor DAP chairman Teo Nie Ching and Johor PKR chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. Aminolhuda urged Johor voters to turn out in large numbers on July 11 and give PH the mandate to form the state government. The Johor Amanah chairman said he was confident the manifesto launched today could be implemented by the coalition if it forms the next state government. "I am confident the (future) leadership will continue the work led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the federal level and deliver on what has been promised," he said. Johor Polls: Ah Soon Banks On ‘Jalan Koyok’ Upgrade To Retain Yong Peng Seat

BATU PAHAT, July 3 -- Once mocked by residents as ‘Jalan Koyok’ owing to its heavily patched condition, the road transformation has now become one of the highlights in Yong Peng state assemblyman Ling Tian Soon’s report card in his bid to secure a second-term mandate in the Johor state polls. Ling, who is known as Ah Soon among locals, said upon being elected as a representative in 2022, he prioritised long-delayed basic development, particularly upgrading infrastructure as a catalyst for local economic growth.  “I used quite a big amount of development funds to repair the road, about RM23 million over three years, covering from Ayer Hitam to the border of Segamat. In the Chinese community, there is a saying: ‘when roads are well built, the economy will also move’,” he told Bernama here recently.  Ling, 42, who is also the former state Health and Environment Committee chairman, said the transformation has begun to boost investor confidence, with more major logistics and courier companies choosing Yong Peng, located about 100 kilometres from Johor Bahru city centre, as their operational base.  He added that a leading e-commerce platform is also planning to build its largest distribution hub in Yong Peng, which is expected to create more job opportunities for youths.  “Yong Peng is centrally located in Johor and only about an hour from the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP). This strategic location offers significant advantages for the logistics and manufacturing industries,” he said.  He said Yong Peng is at a turning point towards becoming a new industrial town, as more investors are beginning to acquire land for industrial development.  On his new manifesto, which will be launched this Saturday, Ling said it will focus on three main pillars: strengthening infrastructure, enhancing social safety nets, and boosting the economy through the tourism sector.  He added that facilities for senior citizens, young families and newlyweds will also be improved to encourage more young people to continue living in Yong Peng.  Commenting on his confidence in defending the Yong Peng seat, Ling said he is leaving it to voters to assess his performance over more than four years in service.  “I have presented my report card to the people. Whether I pass or excel, let the voters decide,” he said.  Ling said he has built a close relationship with the local community over the past 16 years, starting when he handled parliamentary affairs in Ayer Hitam under its Member of Parliament and MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.  “Since then, I have always been on the ground meeting the people. The relationship built is not only during elections,” he said.  Ling, who won the Yong Peng state seat for the first time in the 2022 Johor state election, said his strength lies in his consistent grassroots approach, earning him the nickname ‘YB Kedai Kopi’.  “Almost every day I stop by coffee shops, stalls or mamak restaurants to meet residents. Our relationship is no longer just between a representative and voters, but more like a family,” he said.  In the upcoming Johor polls, Ling will defend the Yong Peng seat in a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Yong Hui Yi.  -- BERNAMA

Johor Polls: DAP Confident New Faces Can Drive Change

BATU PAHAT, July 2  -- DAP is confident that its line-up of first-time candidates contesting under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) banner in the Johor state election can bring meaningful change to their respective constituencies. DAP deputy secretary-general Steven Sim Chee Keong said the Johor DAP leadership's decision to field candidates who had never contested an election reflected the party's commitment to giving younger leaders the opportunity to step forward and serve the people. Sim, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives said although they were new faces in electoral politics, the candidates were not newcomers to the political arena, as many had gained extensive experience working behind the scenes for the party. "We are giving them the opportunity to serve as candidates and, if entrusted by the people, they will go on to become elected representatives. While we are introducing young and new candidates, we are not sidelining our senior leaders. "We will continue to involve those who have previously served as elected representatives and party leaders in our campaign and grassroots efforts," he told Bernama after a breakfast session with DAP's Parit Raja state seat candidate here today. Also present were DAP assistant national publicity secretary Young Syefura Othman and the party's Parit Raja candidate Shazwan Dzainal Abidin. Young Syefura said the party was fully backing its new candidates to demonstrate that every individual within DAP possessed the capability to lead, while also providing them with the opportunity to showcase their potential at the grassroots level. She said Shazwan, who hails from Batu Pahat, has nearly a decade of political experience, including serving as special officer to the Penggaram state assemblyman. Young Syefura also praised Shazwan's positive spirit throughout the first six days of campaigning, despite Parit Raja being widely regarded as one of Barisan Nasional's strongholds. Meanwhile, Shazwan said he was encouraged by the warm reception from local residents, admitting that he had initially felt nervous about contesting in the constituency. "I am excited to be contesting in what has traditionally been an UMNO and BN stronghold. However, the response from the people has been very encouraging. Some even approached me for selfies, and that has given me added confidence," he said. In the Johor polls, DAP, contesting under the PH banner, is fielding 17 candidates in Jementah, Bekok, Tangkak, Bentayan, Yong Peng, Parit Raja, Penggaram, Mengkibol, Paloh, Tiram, Johor Jaya, Stulang, Perling, Skudai, Bukit Permai, Senai and Pekan Nanas. A total of 172 candidates are contesting in the Johor state election, with polling on July 11 and early voting on July 7 -- BERNAMA
