YB Datuk Fahmi Commends Johor Election Dialogue, Says Platform Strengthens Democracy

KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has praised the successful organisation of the Johor State Election (PRN) Dialogue, describing it as an important platform that encourages democratic engagement and the exchange of ideas. In a statement today, Fahmi said he was grateful that the dialogue, jointly organised by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Astro Awani and Sinar Harian, proceeded smoothly last night. “Alhamdulillah, the Johor PRN Dialogue organised jointly by RTM, Awani and Sinar Harian went well last night,” he said. Fahmi congratulated the organising teams for creating a space that allows democracy and the exchange of views to continue flourishing, particularly in the lead-up to the state election. He said programmes of such nature played an important role in providing opportunities for constructive discussions and enabling the public to better understand different perspectives on issues affecting the people. “Hopefully, programmes like this can continue to be held in the future,” he said. 94.49 % Early Voter Turnout Recorded in Johor State Election

PUTRAJAYA, July 7 -- A total of 19,471 early voters, representing 94.49 per cent of eligible early voters, cast their ballots today in the 16th Johor State Election, according to the Election Commission (EC). In a statement, the EC said the early voters comprised military personnel and their spouses, as well as police personnel and spouses from the General Operations Force (GOF). A total of 62 early voting centres were opened across Johor, with polling taking place from 8 am. The centres closed at 12 noon for 29 polling stations, 2 pm for five polling stations and 5 pm for the remaining 28 polling stations. The EC said 7,960 military personnel and their spouses, along with 11,511 police personnel and GOF spouses, exercised their voting rights during the early voting process. It also congratulated all Returning Officers and election personnel for carrying out their duties efficiently throughout the polling process. The commission also expressed its appreciation to the Johor State Secretary's Office, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, members of the media and all parties involved for their cooperation and support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the early voting process. Johor Polls: Kota Iskandar’s Development Must Benefit The People – PH’s Dzulkefly

JOHOR BAHRU, June 30 -- Kota Iskandar's status as the seat of the Johor state administration and a hub for major development projects must bring tangible benefits to the people, not merely be reflected in investment figures and economic growth, said the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate contesting the seat in the Johor state election. Dzulkefly Ahmad said feedback gathered during the campaign showed that several basic issues remained a source of concern for residents and required more comprehensive solutions. He said the issues most frequently raised included infrastructure, traffic congestion, flooding, the land status of places of worship, educational facilities and the need to improve public amenities. "With investments worth RM110 billion, state revenue of RM2.67 billion and state reserves amounting to RM2.8 billion, the people should be able to enjoy the benefits of such development. We should not merely focus on the numbers while those on the ground do not experience the benefits," he told Bernama. Dzulkefly said among the issues requiring attention was the land ownership status of several non-Muslim places of worship, including Ladang Lam Sam Temple in Kangkar Pulai, which has yet to obtain a resolution over its land title even though the land had already been surrendered to the state government for it to be awarded to the temple. He also said there was a need to upgrade the shortcut to the Tamil national-type school in the Nusantara area via Bukit Tempurung, which remains unpaved, while traffic congestion along the FT005 and J07 routes connecting Johor Bahru and Gelang Patah continued to irk residents. According to him, the frequent flooding in Kampung Baru Muafakat and Kampung Pulai, as well as unresolved land ownership issues involving residents of Kampung Pulai Mutiara despite the area's regularisation process having been completed, also required attention. He said these issues could only be resolved through coordination among the relevant agencies and not ad hoc measures. "I find that some of the solutions implemented previously were temporary and ad hoc in nature. What is needed are long-term solutions that can comprehensively ease congestion because it affects the daily lives of residents," he said. Dzulkefly also pledged to pursue the construction of a new public market in Gelang Patah should PH be given the mandate to form the Johor state government in the election on July 11. He said the existing facility, known as Taman Nusa Perintis Market, faced several issues, including land ownership, parking space and infrastructure that no longer met the needs of the rapidly growing area. "Therefore, if PH forms the government, we will ensure that a new public market is built there because Gelang Patah is no ordinary area. The state administrative centre is located here, as are the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Legoland and Puteri Harbour," he said. On his campaign approach, Dzulkefly said face-to-face engagement would remain his priority to enable him to hear the people's concerns directly, while also leveraging social media and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to engage young voters and Generation Z. The Kota Iskandar constituency, which has 132,579 registered voters, is seeing a four-cornered contest involving Dzulkefly, Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate S. Anna Pravina, incumbent Datuk Pandak Ahmad representing Barisan Nasional (BN) and Sahrudin Omar of Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama). -- BERNAMA

Johor PRN: 56 nomination centres closed, campaigning begins

JOHOR BAHRU, JUNE 27 -- The candidate nomination process for the 16th Johor State Election (PRN) was completed at 10 am this morning, after all 56 nomination centres across the state closed. An hour is allocated for the submission of nomination forms, which begins at 9 am, before the Returning Officer (RO) announces the closure of the process at each nomination centre. The focus is now on the official declaration of the list of candidates eligible to contest as well as the number of candidates competing in each State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat. Once the process is complete, the 14-day campaign period for the Johor state election officially begins as set by the Election Commission (EC), until 11.59pm, July 10, before polling day. A Bernama survey at several nomination centres found that loyal supporters had been accompanying their respective party candidates to the nomination locations since early this morning. The atmosphere around the nomination centre was reported to be peaceful and controlled without any provocation, thanks to close monitoring by members of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) with the assistance of the Malaysian Volunteers Department (RELA). The EC has set July 7 as the early voting date while July 11 as polling day. A total of 2,727,926 voters are eligible to exercise their responsibilities in this election, consisting of 2,703,175 ordinary voters, 12,041 military personnel and their spouses, and 12,710 police personnel and their spouses. -- BERNAMA

Amanah To Field More Fresh Faces, Youths In Johor State Election

JOHOR BAHRU, June 20 -- Party Amanah will field more fresh faces, including youth and women candidates, in the upcoming Johor State Election. Johor Amanah Chairman Aminolhuda Hassan stated that out of the 19 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats the party will contest, roughly six or seven candidates are individuals who have run in previous elections. "The rest are fresh faces, and out of that number, half consist of youth candidates," he told reporters at the launch of the South Zone Amanah Election Machinery here today, which was also attended by Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. Aminolhuda added that the party has also shortlisted two women candidates so far. Commenting on the areas Amanah will contest in this Johor State Election, he explained that it covers six seats in the northern zone, five in the central zone, while the remainder are in the east coast and southern zones of Johor. Meanwhile, Mohamad said that the party machinery is now fully prepared to face the state election. Special Meeting On Johor Polls To Be Held June 12 – EC

KUALA LUMPUR, June 6 -- A special meeting on the 16th Johor State Election will be held on June 12, the Election Commission (EC) said. EC Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the commission had received a notice from Johor State Assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi on the dissolution of the Johor State Legislative Assembly on June 2, as provided under Article 23(2) of Part Two of the Laws of the Constitution of Johor 1895. “Article 23(4) of Part Two of the Laws of the Constitution of Johor 1895 provides that an election is to be conducted within 60 days from the date of the dissolution of the State Assembly. “The special meeting, to be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, will discuss key dates for the 16th Johor state election, including the writ of election, nomination day, polling day, the electoral roll to be used, and other preparations for the election,” he said in a statement today. He added that a press conference would be held immediately after the special meeting. The Johor State Assembly was dissolved on June 1 following the consent of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail. In a separate statement, Khairul Shahril said applications for postal voting, both within and outside the country, for the 16th Johor state election are now open online at https://myspr.spr.gov.my starting today. It covers postal voting applications for all categories, namely Category 1A (police personnel, military personnel, election officials, EC members/ officers, and media personnel), Category 1B (Malaysian citizens living abroad), and Category 1C (agencies and organisations). “All postal voting applications must be made online. Eligible voters who wish to vote by post must register or have a MySPR account before submitting their application,” he said. Khairul Shahril said the closing date for postal voting applications for all categories would be announced later.
