Johor Polls: MACC To Open Five Operations Rooms

JOHOR BAHRU, June 25 -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will open five operations rooms across Johor to enable members of the public to submit information and complaints related to corruption and abuse of power during the state election. MACC said that the operations rooms will operate 24 hours a day, starting from nomination day on June 27 until polling day on July 11. It said that the five operations rooms will be located at the MACC Johor office in Tampoi, as well as MACC branch offices in Batu Pahat, Kluang, Segamat, and Mersing. “Members of the public may also channel complaints regarding corruption and abuse of power through the operations room's official email address: aduan.prnjohor2026@sprm.gov.my,” MACC said in a statement today. It also assured that every piece of information received will be investigated professionally and transparently, in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws. The commission further reminded all candidates and contesting political parties not to engage in any acts that violate the law, including provisions under the MACC Act 2009 and the Election Offences Act 1954 (Amendment 2012). The Election Commission (EC) has set July 11 as the polling day for the Johor polls, with nomination day on June 27 and early voting on July 7. -- BERNAMA

JOHOR BAHRU, June 24 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the announcement of Pakatan Harapan's candidates for the Johor state election (PRN) sends a clear message that the contest should remain a competition between political parties, centered on policies, performance and the future of the people, yesterday. He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had stressed that the state election must not involve or associate other institutions, but instead be conducted in a mature and democratic manner. "The Prime Minister has made it clear that this election should be fought on the basis of party strength, policies and track records. It must remain a contest between political parties without dragging other institutions into the political arena," Fahmi said. He noted that Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had confirmed that seat negotiations within Pakatan Harapan had been successfully concluded, allowing the coalition to focus entirely on mobilising its election machinery, strengthening logistics and delivering accurate information to voters across Johor. Fahmi also highlighted Johor's strong development record under the MADANI Government, noting that the state received the highest development allocation among states in Peninsular Malaysia. "Johor has received a larger development allocation than states governed by Pakatan Harapan such as Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang. In fact, allocations channelled to Johor under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration are 43 per cent higher compared to those provided during the administration of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob," he said. He added that DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke had emphasised the importance of securing victory in Johor to further strengthen political stability and ensure the Federal Government remains strong and effective. At the same time, Fahmi said Pakatan Harapan leaders have consistently reiterated that the election should remain a contest between political parties while preserving the country's democratic principles. PDRM Deploys 11,926 Personnel For Johor State Election

JOHOR BAHRU, June 18 -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will deploy 11,926 officers and personnel to ensure security and the smooth conduct of the upcoming Johor State Election. Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the deployment will be carried out in five phases throughout the election process. “The deployment will be adjusted according to operational needs,” he told a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters today. In addition, Ab Rahaman said the Johor Police Contingent had received additional manpower support from units under the Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) to maintain public order He said it involved 54 officers and 701 personnel from the General Operations Force, Federal Reserve Unit, PDRM Air Unit and Marine Police Force. Ab Rahaman said that for nomination day on June 27, a total of 4,832 officers and personnel will be deployed to ensure the smooth running of the process, including security and traffic control aspects. He said that throughout the campaign period, from after nomination day until 11.59 pm on July 10, a total of 3,903 personnel will be deployed to monitor all campaign activities, ceramah, gatherings and political programmes. On polling day, July 11, Ab Rahaman said a total of 11,814 police officers and personnel will be deployed statewide to assist the Election Commission (EC) in overseeing the voting process and ensuring voters can carry out their responsibilities safely. He also said the police would take strict action against any form of provocation, threats, incitement, the spread of fake news and hate speech involving the royal institution, religion and race (3R), which could affect public order. Meanwhile, he said a total of 12,710 police officers and personnel in Johor were eligible for early voting in the state election based on the electoral roll gazetted by the EC as of May 31. --BERNAMA

Special EC Meeting Today To Decide Key Dates For Johor, Negeri Sembilan Polls

PUTRAJAYA, June 12  -- The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting today to determine key dates and other matters related to the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections. The meeting, to be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, is scheduled to begin at 10 am at the EC headquarters here, followed by a press conference. Among the dates expected to be announced are those for the issuance of election writs, nomination day, early voting, polling day and the campaign period, as well as other preparations for the elections. On June 1, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the 56-seat Johor State Legislative Assembly after obtaining the consent of Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail. This was followed by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun's announcement on June 4 that the 36-seat Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly would be dissolved the following day after obtaining the consent of Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. -- BERNAMA

Johor Polls: Over 2.7 Million Eligible To Vote, 42,000 Election Workers To Be Appointed

JOHOR BAHRU, June 9 -- The Election Commission (EC) has registered over 2.7 million electors eligible to cast their ballots in the 16th Johor state election, based on the Supplementary Electoral Roll for April 2026, which was gazetted on May 21. EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the figure comprises 2,703,175 ordinary voters and 24,751 early voters, including police personnel, General Operations Force (GOF) officers and their spouses, as well as members of the armed forces and their spouses. “Of the total number of electors, 56,655 are persons with disabilities (PWDs), who will require special attention from the EC to ensure they are able to vote comfortably,” he told Bernama. Khairul Shahril said the figures, however, remain subject to updates through the Supplementary Electoral Roll that will be adopted for the election following a decision at the EC’s special meeting slated for June 12. He said that approximately 42,000 election workers are expected to be appointed and mobilised to manage all aspects of the state election. The workforce will include 56 Returning Officers, election personnel and security officers involved throughout the election period. The EC is currently reviewing and updating information related to operational and logistical requirements for the polls. “Fundamentally, the cost of conducting an election depends on several factors, including the number of registered voters, polling centres and polling streams, the appointment of election personnel, logistical requirements, and the use of information and communications technology,” he said. Khairul Shahril added that the EC remains committed to optimising the use of public resources and expenditure to ensure elections are conducted efficiently, prudently and in line with operational needs. The Johor State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 1, with the EC scheduled to determine key dates for the state election at its special meeting on June 12. KUALA LUMPUR: The Johor Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has begun various early preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the 16th Johor State Election (PRN). Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this includes the assignment of personnel, security aspects, logistics and coordination between agencies. He said early preparation was very important, to enable all security-related plans to be carefully arranged, and to allow every operational requirement to be identified in advance. "What is important is that the people can carry out their responsibilities comfortably and confidently, while a healthy democratic atmosphere continues to be maintained." DAP Postpones National Congress, Gears Up for Johor and Negeri Sembilan State Polls

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5, 2026 — The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of Democratic Action Party (DAP) has postponed its 2026 National Congress to focus on the upcoming state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. In a statement issued after its monthly meeting on Thursday night, DAP Secretary-General Loke Siew Fook announced that the party's National Congress, originally scheduled for July 12, will now be held on August 16, following the dissolution of the state legislative assemblies in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. DAP confirmed it will defend all seats currently held by the party in both states and is seeking to contest additional constituencies in Johor, subject to final negotiations with fellow partners in Pakatan Harapan. The party also announced the formation of a five-member candidate selection committee comprising Loke, Gobind Singh Deo, Nga Kor Ming, Teo Nie Ching and Chong Chieng Jen. KUALA LUMPUR, June 4 -- UMNO has postponed this year's UMNO Divisional Delegates' Meeting as well as the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings to focus fully on preparations for the Johor State Election (PRN), yesterday. UMNO secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision, which the party's Supreme Council agreed, was aimed at ensuring that members at all levels could assist in the work to face the state election. "In this regard, to ensure that the Women, Youth and Puteri representative meetings that need to be held in accordance with the UMNO Constitution, they will be held simultaneously throughout the country from 17 to 19 July. "The Division Representative Meeting will be held the following week, from 24 to 26 July," he said in a statement today.
