Negeri Sembilan PRN: Most districts forecast to have sunny skies for nomination day tomorrow

SEREMBAN: Weather conditions are forecast to be good in most districts in the state on the nomination day for the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN), tomorrow. Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said sunny weather was forecast in Jelebu, Jempol, Kuala Pilah, Rembau and Tampin, while Port Dickson and Seremban were expected to experience rain. "Based on current data, the rain is temporary and insignificant. The rain is not predicted to be heavy and prolonged, but rather intermittent or short-lived." "The minimum temperature throughout the state is expected to be between 23 and 24 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature is between 32 and 33 degrees Celsius," he told Bernama today. Mohd Hisham said the public, including candidates, supporters and staff, were advised to obtain the latest weather information via the MetMalaysia website at www.met.gov.my. The Negeri Sembilan state election will begin tomorrow with the nomination process at eight Candidate Nomination Centres starting at 9am before closing at 10am, followed by the official announcement of candidates eligible to contest by the Returning Officer. So far, Pakatan Harapan (PH) has announced that it will contest a total of 36 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats involving 16 candidates from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), DAP (11) and Amanah (nine) while Barisan Nasional (BN) is contesting 25 seats with UMNO contesting 16 seats, MCA (seven) and MIC (two). Also announcing that they would be participating in the democratic process was Perikatan Nasional (PN), which is contesting in 11 seats involving five PAS candidates, four National Vision Party (Wawasan) candidates, and one each from Gerakan and the Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP). In addition, also announcing their participation in this year's election are the Malaysian Indigenous Peoples Party (ASLI), the Malaysian Socialist Party (PSM), and the All-Malaysian Jemaah Islamiah Front (Berjasa), with each fielding one candidate. This evening, the United Indigenous Party of Malaysia (Bersatu) is expected to announce the list of candidates representing the party to contest in the state election. The Negeri Sembilan State Assembly, which has 36 seats, was dissolved on June 5 and the Election Commission (EC) set July 28 as early voting day, while August 1 as polling day. Based on the electoral roll issued by the EC, a total of 889,490 voters are eligible to vote in this election. Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Perlis, Kedah and Parts of Perak Until 3pm

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 – The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning involving several areas in the northern region, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds expected until 3pm today. The affected areas include Perlis, Kedah, and parts of Perak, specifically Larut, Matang and Selama as well as Hulu Perak. The warning, issued at 12 noon on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), stated that thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds are expected to occur in the affected areas. MetMalaysia explained that a thunderstorm warning is issued when signs indicate that thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour are either occurring or expected to occur for more than an hour. The department also reminded the public that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert and is valid for a period of not more than six hours from the time of issuance. KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 -- The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong winds warning for eight states until 7 pm today. MetMalaysia, in a statement, said the affected areas are Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah, as well as Larut, Matang dan Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar and Kinta in Perak. Similar weather conditions are also forecast for Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang and Pasir Puteh in Kelantan; Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu in Terengganu; and Cameron Highlands in Pahang. MetMalaysia denies offers to procure jobs, services via social media

KUALA LUMPUR, JUN 30 -- The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) denies allegations of issuing any applications or offers related to the procurement of work, supplies or services via social media applications. MetMalaysia, in a statement today, informed that it was taking the matter seriously after receiving complaints about irresponsible individuals posing as department officials to offer non-existent procurement deals.  "The department has never issued any such applications or offers via social media applications such as WhatsApp or Telegram, nor via email other than the department's official email," the statement said. MetMalaysia also filed a police report regarding the matter and advised members of the public who are victims or receive suspicious applications to immediately file a report with the authorities to assist in the investigation. All MetMalaysia procurement matters are officially carried out only through the eProcurement System in accordance with the government procurement procedures and regulations in force. "The public, companies and suppliers are advised to always be vigilant and to first check the validity of any offer or application associated with MetMalaysia," the statement said. -- BERNAMA

Johor Polls: Rain Forecast In Seven Districts On Nomination Day

JOHOR BAHRU, June 26 -- Rain is forecast to affect seven of the 10 districts in the state tomorrow morning, potentially posing a slight “challenge” for prospective candidates and supporters on nomination day for the Johor state election.  Johor director of the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Azlai Ta’at, said rain is expected in Johor Bahru, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi, Pontian, Tangkak and Kulai. However, clear weather is expected in the morning in the other three districts of Segamat, Kluang and Mersing. “Minimum temperatures across the state are expected to range between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius, while maximum temperatures will be between 31 and 34 degrees Celsius, with Segamat recording the highest at up to 34 degrees Celsius. “The public, including supporters of contesting candidates, are advised to stay alert to any changes in weather conditions,” he told Bernama here today. Thunderstorms are also expected to mark the start of the campaigning period, which will officially begin immediately after the nomination process ends tomorrow. MetMalaysia forecast thunderstorms in Johor Bahru, Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi, Pontian, Mersing and Kulai in the afternoon, while Batu Pahat and Tangkak are expected to experience rain, and Muar is forecast to be hot. The nomination process is scheduled to take place from 9 am to 10 am at 56 nomination centres, before the official announcement of eligible candidates is made by returning officers. Pakatan Harapan is fielding candidates in all 56 seats, involving 20 from PKR, 19 from Amanah and 17 from DAP. Barisan Nasional is also contesting 56 seats, fielding 36 UMNO candidates, 16 MCA candidates and four MIC candidates. Perikatan Nasional has announced that PAS will contest 11 seats, Bersatu 16, the Malaysian Indian People’s Party five and Pejuang one. The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance will contest four seats, Parti Sosialis Malaysia one, while Parti Bersama Malaysia is set to make its debut by contesting 15 seats. Strong earthquake hits Russia, no tsunami threat to Malaysia – MetMalaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 was detected off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia at 2.52 pm this afternoon. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement announced that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres (km) with the epicentre detected 128 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Russia.
