Police confirm fake bomb threat at a building in the capital last night

KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 -- Police have confirmed that a fake bomb threat was received at a prominent building in the capital last night. Brickfields District Police Chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook said his department received a call about the incident at 9.09pm from a security guard at the building. "The security guard informed us that he had received an email sent to the customer service centre saying that someone had placed a bomb on the 23rd floor of the building's north tower," he said in a statement here yesterday. Hoo said the Bomb Disposal Unit, Detection Dog Unit and Forensic Unit were then deployed to the location to conduct a search and found it to be a false threat. "The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act 1998 and Section 507 of the Penal Code," he said. --BERNAMA

PM Anwar Ibrahim Welcomes BlackBerry Delegation To Strengthen Malaysia’s Cybersecurity Ecosystem

PUTRAJAYA, May 23 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today received a courtesy visit from a delegation of BlackBerry Limited led by its President, John Giamatteo, alongside representatives from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and National University of Malaysia to discuss efforts to strengthen local expertise in cybersecurity and future technologies. Anwar said the establishment of the Malaysia CyberSecurity Centre of Excellence (CCoE) in Cyberjaya since 2024 has delivered significant benefits through various cybersecurity courses and certification programmes involving nearly 10,000 civil servants and ICT professionals. He noted that the initiative is crucial in preparing the country to face increasingly complex cyber threats and post-quantum security challenges. The Prime Minister was also briefed on several strategic collaborations, including the Smart Campus programme and the development of BlackBerry QNX technology for the electric vehicle, semiconductor and industrial automation sectors. In addition, Anwar highlighted the innovation of the PeritoCare Mobile Dialysis Device, which was developed through the expertise of local talents.
