MUAR: The 19-year-old male driver involved in an accident that claimed five lives on Jalan Renggam–Simpang Renggam last week has been remanded for two more days until Wednesday under Section 302 of the Penal Code to allow for further investigations. The remand order against the suspect, who is also a student at a university in Singapore, was issued by Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno at the Muar Magistrate's Court, after the previous remand period of four days until today ended. Kluang District Police Chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the remand application was made to complete the investigation into the incident. "The previous investigation, which is under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, is still ongoing based on the viral video involving the suspect driving speedily and recklessly," he said when contacted by Bernama today. Earlier, last Tuesday, the first remand was carried out at the Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court under Section 42(1) for two days and was extended for a day at the Kluang Magistrate's Court. However, once the remand ended, the police re-arrested the suspect on Thursday under Section 302 of the Penal Code at the Kluang Sessions Court after the investigation papers were referred to the Attorney General's Chambers. Father Charged With Murder of Two-month-old Daughter In Labuan

LABUAN, May 25 -- A 37-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with the murder of his two-month-old daughter at a house in Kampung Bukit Kuda early this month. No plea was recorded from the accused, Azmi Amat, after the charge was read before Magistrate Dr Melissa Chia Pui Fung. According to the facts of the case, the incident came to light after police were alerted by Labuan Hospital at about 2.40 am on May 9 regarding a two-month-old baby girl brought to the hospital, suspected to be a victim of abuse. The infant later died while receiving treatment. A post-mortem examination revealed that the baby had serious head injuries caused by blunt force trauma, as well as several rib fractures. The man was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and, if not sentenced to death, not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. Driver Charged With Murder In Fatal Crash In Klang, Admits To Drug Use

KLANG, April 1 (Bernama) -- A car driver believed to have been under the influence of drugs has been charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with murder over the death of a motorcyclist in a crash on Sunday. R. Saktygaanapathy, 28, was charged with causing the death of Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, at Jalan Raya Barat, Klang, at 11.47 am on March 29. The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years and, if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction. No plea was recorded from the accused after the charge was read out before Magistrate M. Khartiyayini, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. In another charge at the same court, Saktygaanapathy pleaded guilty to self-administration of drugs believed to be benzodiazepine (Benzo) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) at the Narcotics Office of the South Klang District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 3.30 pm on the same day. He was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, and may include a supervision order of up to three years upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin did not offer bail, citing the seriousness of the murder charge. The accused was unrepresented.
