Dewan Rakyat Records Condolences Over Dewan Negara President’s Mother’s Death

KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 -- The Dewan Rakyat today expressed its condolences to Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah following the death of his mother earlier today. The message of condolence was conveyed by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul during this afternoon's parliamentary sitting. “Honourable Members, it is with deep sorrow and sadness that I wish to inform this House that the mother of Honourable Senator Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, the President of the Dewan Negara, has just returned to the mercy of Allah. "On behalf of all Members of this House and Parliament as a whole, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Honourable Senator Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah on the passing of his beloved mother. I pray that he and his entire family will remain strong and steadfast during this difficult time," he said He also invited all MPs to hold a brief prayer for the deceased. -- BERNAMA

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar Attends Armed Forces Colours Parade Ceremony in Putrajaya

PUTRAJAYA, June 5, 2026 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, King of Malaysia, attended the Armed Forces Colours Parade Ceremony at Dataran Pahlawan Negara, Putrajaya, today as part of the official celebrations marking His Majesty's Official Birthday 2026. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Temenggong of Johor. Upon arrival, Sultan Ibrahim was received by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof, and Defence Minister Mohamed Khaled Nordin. His Majesty was accorded a royal salute as the national anthem, Negaraku, was played. A 21-gun salute was also fired by the 41st Ceremonial Battery of the Royal Artillery Regiment, led by Major Hafizah Mat Ghani. Sultan Ibrahim subsequently inspected the parade contingent comprising 25 officers and 510 personnel from the three branches of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM). The parade was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Azlan Shah Baharom, Commanding Officer of the Fifth Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment. The Colours Parade Ceremony is one of the principal events held in conjunction with the Official Birthday celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. The military colours, known as Panji-Panji, represent the honour, pride, spirit, and unwavering loyalty of the Malaysian Armed Forces to the King and the nation. Historically, military colours originated from banners carried by armies in ancient times. In the modern era, they symbolize the close relationship between military units and the Royal Institution under the patronage of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
